Making Cake Decorating Fun

Cakes are made for various occasions and they come in various types. These could be for, wedding or birthday. It can be fun if done in the right way. Decorating a cake with no tier at all is easier as compared to one with several tiers. Different cakes come with various types of decorations. Decorating cupcakes could be different from decorating one for wedding or birthday.

Cake decorating could be done using rose flower designs. These designs could be made separately and then carefully embedded on it or they could be made directly on the cake. These could be made from different colors and flavors. The petals to the rose could also be made of various colors to kill the monotony. Other ways of decorating these delicacies is by use of chocolate.

Cake decorating can be made fun by experimenting with the various food colors in the kitchen, as long as they do not spoil the whole thing. This leaves beautiful colors on it. However, one should consider the theme color of that particular occasion. If not so, the occasion could end up with too many contrasting colors. Chocolate colors are normally widely used for cakes though this has become too monotonous.

If the cake is being made for a particular occasion it would be wise to look for other matching colors that would not spoil the theme of the particular occasion. Children can add a lot of fun to the whole activity. They could also learn from the whole process. They should be encouraged to do this if the cake is just to be consumed at home. Better still, it could be a bright idea to involve the family.

Holiday Cake Decorating Ideas

Good holiday cake decorating ideas don't have to involve complex creations or multi-layered cakes - you can make your cakes more interesting by simply making a few changes to the shape and adding some decorations. In this article we'll cover some popular holidays and discuss some ideas for unique cakes to impress your guests on these occasions.

Christmas Cakes

You have plenty of different angles to come from when planning a Christmas cake. You can celebrate the traditional values of Christmas with some biblical symbolism - a cake made in the shape of a cross is not difficult to pull off even if you have little baking experience. All you need to do is create a few cakes in a long, narrow pan and then cut these into pieces to arrange in a cross. Cover over the edges between each piece with icing, or fondant if you want a very smooth look. Another option would be to do a simple square or round cake and set up figurines to depict the scene of the Nativity.

You can also try other shapes like a Christmas tree, which would involve baking a triangle shape as well as a smaller rectangle for the trunk. You can get creative with the icing for this cake, with brown for the trunk, green for the tree and red and white for decorations. Using an icing bag for the decorations will help give you more precision.

Other options for the more creative baker include a Santa cake or a Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer cake. You could also try a simple cake in the shape of a gift box, with icing for the ribbon.

Halloween Cakes

Halloween is a great time of year to let your imagination run wild, and there are plenty of options ranging from old favorites like ghosts or Frankenstein through newer creations from the world of horror movies. Face cakes are all fairly simple to make, as they generally just require an oval cake and icing for the features if you want to do a basic version. If you want to get more complicated, you can bake extra parts for the nose and ears. You can get creative with icing - for example, using an icing bag to create red streaks dripping from a vampire's teeth. A skull cake is another popular Halloween choice.

Easter Cakes

Again, the cross cake could be an option for this holiday. Alternatively, you could do an Easter bunny cake with marshmallows for the eyes, nose and mouth. Another option if you're good at icing cakes would be an elaborately decorated Easter egg cake.

Fourth of July Cake

There should be a fairly obvious idea already springing to mind for this one - the American flag. This will be very simple to bake, but somewhat more challenging when it comes to icing. You will want to make use of an icing bag with a wide tip to create smooth, even stripes. The stars will be the real challenge, for which you will want a fine tip on the icing bag for extra precision.

Online Cake Decorating Classes - Take Cake Decorating Courses on the Internet

If you've ever considered taking a course to learn to decorate cakes but found that the time or expense didn't work for you, you might consider online cake decorating classes as an easy alternative. There are plenty of cake courses available at culinary schools and some craft stores, but online cake decorating classes are generally more convenient and less expensive and may fit your lifestyle better.

Decorating cakes is not complicated, but there are techniques and tools that you'll need to learn to use, and your first attempts at it may not turn out quite the way you want them to. With the demonstrations and explanations you'll get from online classes, however, you'll be able to master these techniques and create beautiful cakes for all your important celebrations.

Options for Learning To Decorate Cakes

For many beginning cake decorators, the Wilton School in Illinois is the first choice for attending a class. Obviously, traveling to Illinois is not an option for many people, and the classes at the Wilton School can be expensive. Local stores and schools are another option for taking cake courses. The workshops and classes offered at these locations are often very affordable, and the atmosphere is fun and instructional. For the greatest convenience, online cake decorating classes are the best option for many aspiring cake decorators.

Benefits Of Online Cake Decorating Classes

Membership sites and e-courses are generally very inexpensive when you consider that they are all-inclusive. While local classes usually focus on specific topics, such as making icing flowers or working with fondant, online cake decorating classes include all aspects of decorating cakes, and all of the learning resources are available to you at all times.

Instead of an instructor demonstrating a technique once in front of you, with online courses you'll have videos, written or audio instructions, and plenty of photographs to learn from, so you can repeat the instruction as often as you need to. If you've never decorated cakes before, you can start with the most basic topics and take your time mastering each technique. If you're more advanced, you're free to skip through the demonstrations of the things you already know how to do, and get right ahead to learning new techniques.

For many people, the greatest advantage in taking cake courses online is that you're free to set your own pace and schedule. You can take online classes late at night if you need to, or in between taking care of small children at home. No culinary school or craft store class will offer such flexibility.

How To Take Online Cake Decorating Classes

Most online cake courses will include several means of instruction. Cake courses taken on the internet usually include a combination of videos, pictures, and written instructions. Techniques will be explained and demonstrated step-by-step and will often be in the form of a downloadable e-book that can be viewed on screen or printed out. Most online cake classes also include e-books full of recipes for you to use in your baking.

Another online alternative for taking decorating courses is to join a membership website. A website like this is full of articles, videos, and photos that teach techniques and give decorating ideas. All of the content is available to subscribers only, and the subscription will also provide access to a members-only forum and email support for asking questions, sharing your creations, and getting new ideas. Professional cake decorators are on staff to help with questions in the forum or by email.

Try Learning To Decorate Cakes With An Online Course

Anyone with an interest in learning to decorate cakes should consider online cake decorating classes. You'll avoid the expense and inconvenience of attending in person, while learning everything you need to know to make beautiful cakes that will impress your friends and family and make all your celebrations more special.

Cake Decorating Ideas Anybody Can Use

One of the best ways to add some life to a party is to have a decorated cake baked specially for the guest of honor. This will really add a personal touch if you choose to use your own cooking skills to turn your own cake decorating ideas into reality.

To make your own decorated cake you will need the raw ingredients and your own cake decorating tools. Because there are so many ways of making cakes using different recipes, ingredients and flavors, we cannot describe them all here. However, to make any cake, you will require basic cooking utensils such as a mixing bowl set, a baking tray, bake even strips, non-stick spray and an oven.

Other cake decorating tools that you should consider buying include non-stick parchment paper and baking strips. To give your cake that professional touch, you should also have a cake leveler to make sure that your cake is perfectly level before you add the decorations.

Decorating a cake can be performed in so many ways, but the most important tools for transforming your cake decorating ideas into reality are a decorating stand, a dessert decorator, some decorating bags for applying icing, and a good set of decorating tips. These can be purchased from your local shopping mall or online from a company like Wilton cake decorating. Used together, there is no limit on what you can create except your imagination. To help you get started in creating your own cake decorating ideas, there are a good many of web sites that are dedicated to the art of decorated cake making.

A good way to choose a theme for a decorated cake is to choose the favorite hobby or interest of the recipient of the cake. If you wish to add a theme to your cake, there are a whole range of theme kits that are available. These range from cartoon characters for kids to racing cars for teenagers. There are also graduation, wedding and party themes for those extra special occasions. Wilton has pans for just about every cake imaginable and you can get their pans on eBay for a good price.

Cake decorating is easy with the right tools

Cake decorating can be a pleasant pastime, even for those who have little or no experience. On birthdays, holidays and Special Occasions even more special cakes do make great memories. Make cake decoration effortless and enjoyable you will need a small amount of essential kitchen supplies. The majority of these things are your closest Walmart. Apart from the cake baking pans and mixing bowls you want as follows:

A Nice Silicon spatula
Use a Silicon spatula that can handle temperatures up to 500 degrees. The reason why that I elect for Silicon rubber is because I like to release many of use of my utensils. I don't like avoir many by utensils in the kitchen who do not receive a repeated use. My spatula gets used almost every day, I even use when I'm cooking scrambled eggs. This spatula will be used for the scraping of dough and frosting or icing bowls during the construction of the cakes.

Metal spatula (Wilton is the brand I use)
You use the metal spatula for icing cakes and the cupcakes. A metal spatula works so much better than a butter knife. If you do not have a metal for the dissemination of frosting spatula, I suggest strongly get one before you decorate your cake with a metal spatula, next make a huge difference.

Knife with a long blade smooth
You will need a thin sharp knife with a smooth Blade (a serrated blade will cause crumbs and you do not want crumbs) to equalize uneven cake before frosting.

Cake decoration Kit
You can pay the money for a whole in a kit and it will include pastry bags, tubes, a mix of tips and couplers or you can choose to buy all these things on your own. It is your preference! If you do not want to spend money on a kit you can possibly use a slide with a cut corner but do rely not on similar results that you may obtain by using a bag baking with tip.

Gel food coloring, paste or powder
Gels are my favorite because they mix easily. Test and find what works best for you.

Consider that a cake decoration takes much practice and patience, having the right tools makes decorate cake much easier and much more fun. If you are a newbie, not to discourage if your decorated cake is not exactly as you had hoped. You'll get a better practice to keep decorating!

A Few Cake Decorating Ideas

Great things come from small beginnings. Cakes started out from sweetbread made into small loaves. Cakes now are wonderfully made delighting everyone who bites into them. You do not have to be intimidated with the sleek and elaborate cake decorating by pastry chefs. The right tools will give your cake decorating efforts a tremendous boost.

-Smooth icing always looks great on any cake. Before putting the icing and decorations, the cake needs to be cooled completely first. Keep the crumbs from the icing by having a subtle frosting base coat that is not as stiff as your regular layer would be. After applying the coat, place the cake for 20 min. in refrigerator. It will set the crumbs and the icing in its place leaving you free in your cake decorating. Start by applying the regular icing layers on your cake.

-With icing spatula, apply and smoothen out the icing for the second coat. The sides will be smooth as you run the spatula along its parameter. Dipping the metal spatula in cold water and horizontally holding it will give you a smooth top. Begin spreading the icing from the farthest part easing it towards you. Do this with your two hands.

-Some chefs insist that the right way to smoothen the icing is the most crucial part in cake decorating. Mastering the process will put you right up there up with the professionals. A smooth and cleanly decorated cake will make a great present. Powdered sugar can be dusted on top of the cake instead of regular icing. Stencils maybe use for details, or for a clean looks you may opt for powdered sugar.

-Setting any candy, sprinkles, coconut or nuts before setting the icing will make a very nice decoration, adding to the fact that it is edible. It will produce a simple yet beautiful design.

-For a textured look, make use of little cardboard comb. Stores for baking supply has this stuff, you can buy it there.

-You can make piping by fitting pastry bag with metal tip held by coupler. Cake decorating calls for the need of this tool because it will be used in creating the intricate design in your cake such as flowers, names, lines and many more. By filling a cup of icing to the bag, start making the design by keeping a steady pressure while doing the design. It would be best to practice first with the pipe before making any designs.

-Fondant is characterized by the white smooth appearance. Complicated cake decorating tasks use this to make 3-D designs. The taste is less than that of butter cream but the cake will have an elegant and sleek design.

You can also make beautiful cakes in your home armed with the right practice and know how's. These simple tips can boost your cake decorating tremendously.
